About this position


The Fiscal Management Division (IFD/FMM) supports the efforts of governments in Latin America and the Caribbean region with strengthening fiscal policy and management at both the national and subnational levels to foster economic growth and reduce inequality and poverty.

We are looking for an experienced fiscal expert to help influence fiscal policies and identify institutional change needs, as well as develop new ideas for public finance improvement in the region.


Our main areas of work are tax policy and administration, public expenditure policy and management, subnational fiscal policy and management, fiscal sustainability as well as macro-fiscal policy and fiscal transparency.

To this end, activities related to fiscal policy include design projects to reform tax policy, public spending policy, advisory and technical assistance on specific issues, as well as knowledge generation to guide our evidence-based interventions and learn from our work.


What you'll do:


  • Lead and/or participate in the design and negotiation of lending operations (e.g., investment, credit lines, policy and results based) to support fiscal reforms.
  • Identify groundbreaking research opportunities to further the knowledge agenda, including fiscal policy in the digital edge and expenditure policy.
  • Collaborate with Bank specialists on the design of fiscal projects, as well as promote innovation of our knowledge and operational work.
  • Intersectoral collaboration to promote the use of fiscal tools to promote sustainable development and address the challenges of climate change.
  • Generate opportunities and improve the business performance and development effectiveness of the Division.
  • Provide technical support in projects and initiatives, including use of digital technologies in fiscal management.
  • Foster strategic alliances with other international institutions and external networks.

What you'll need

Education: You have a master's degree in social sciences, economics, public administration, public policy, or related field.

Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements:

Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.


Type of contract and duration

  • International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
